Eating

Every parent knows the satisfaction of watching their child eat and enjoy a good, healthy meal. It satisfies our most basic need to nurture. Sometimes, however, feeding our children can become a source of confusion, stress or anxiety. At worst, meal times can become a battleground and set up unhealthy associations that can cause problems later on in life.

From a little girl who refused to eat anything that was not white and triangular, to another, who would only eat two mouthfuls before demanding yoghurt.  From extending a family’s range of finger foods and nutritious meals, to a 3 year old who had narrowed down his accepted foods to five, I’ve seen a huge range of feeding, weaning and eating issues and can offer help, advice and hands-on assistance.

Some of the most common problems I encounter are:

·         Fruit and vegetable refusal

·         Narrowing of accepted foods

·         Meal time negotiations and battles

·         Ensuring a balanced diet for picky eaters

·         Anxious eaters

·         Finger food – creating a wider, more varied repertoire

·         Widening range

·         How to stop rewarding with food

·         Transition from formula to cow’s milk (or goat/sheep/other)

·         Moving from packaged food and pouches to ‘grown up’ meals and ‘lumps’

·         Table manners and eating out
